Donald D. Ainsworth, 69, of Makawao, died on Dec. 26, 2011 at Kula Hospital.
Private services will be held by the family.
Mr. Ainsworth was born on Nov. 19, 1942 in Deadwood, S.D.
He was an Instructor at Maui Community College.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Ainsworth; son, Dale (Barbara) Ainsworth; daughters, Kimberly Perry, Lisa (Benjamin) Merrithew, Ivy (Michael) Walsh, Kate (Jared) Welch; brothers, Jerry, Stanley and Lincoln Ainsworth; and 8 grandchildren.
Don taught various classes in the trades at Maui Community College. In his later years, he developed an interest in energy sustainability and was instrumental in starting a program at the college. Don loved to play tennis, dancing, and kept up with many of his high school friends on the mainland. He was a hard worker and a kind, positive and fun-loving person.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. We were so blessed to be able to visit he and his wife when we were in Maui and we will never forget our visit. God Bless. The Jhett Albers Family
Jhett Albers Family, Spearfish, SDDon has been my friend since the 2nd grade. Don was like a brother to me as we were growing up. Don, his cousin Larry Bell and I started a rock-n-roll band our senior year in high school. We won a talent contest. We played on the high school basketball team together.
As Don and I grew older we stayed in touch and I came to know Don as still a favorite friend.
Don was a man of integrity, compassion, intellect, and a genuine nice guy and a real credit to the human race. I will miss him. I am so glad I got to spend part of life in his company. So long, dear friend.
I was very sorry to hear of Don's passing. He was my first teacher at MCC back in the early 70's. I remenber him as not only an excellent teacher but as a very, very nice person. My sincere condolences oto Don's family.

I'm very saddened about the word of Donny's death.
He was my favorite male cousin when we were growning up. What a tall, handsome guy he was.
I feel bad that we weren't able to stay in touch over the years, but at least I have the great memories I do. My husband also became an Engineer, Chemical Engineer.
He will be missed.
Love,
Judy Ann
Don will be greatly missed. I was a student of his between the years 1994-1996 at Maui Community College, Buiding Maintenance program. He was very knowledgeable of the building trades. He was a kind man and I would usually see him with that big smile of his. My sincere condolesence to the Ainsworth family.

Doris Kenui, Neighbor on Kalama HillAloha Gail and ohana,
I am very saddened of Don's passing. I was a student of his when he traveled to Hana for several years. And sometimes it was just he and I at those classes. He was a fantastic teacher and I considered him a very good friend. I have thought of him often through the years with good memories. There are many people that you meet in your lifetime, some just passing by and there are those that leave a mark. A good mark, and he was one of those. May God grant you peace in your time of need and know that he is well taken cared of.
With deepest sympathy,
Stella P. Park
