George was my favorite Professor at WIU, from whom I learned much more than just facts about leisure. He taught me how to speak to groups and hold their attention, something I used often in business and passed on to others. I took every class he taught, and while did not pursue a career in recreation, never regretted a minute of time spent in his classes. It seemed that teaching was not a job for him but was something he enjoyed. An example more should follow. I recall a class assignment to creat a slogan for recreation. The one we all selected, was not mine, but 45 years after graduating it's still with me. As a tribute to his often irreverent, and humorous style I'll pass it on;
"Recreation is the laxative for constipation of the mind". I do regret not having the opportunity to let him know how much of what transpired in his presence continued to stay with me, as will my thoughts of him. As it's said "gone but not forgotten".
