Awe, back on Maui for the first time in over 15 years and went look up my former Monte, sadly to find his obituary. He and I worked together at Oregon Mutual Savings Bank and I visited him and Lenna at the construction site for their cherished home. So sad to see he had passed. He was one of the good guys.

Monte was a coworker, friend, and all-around happy guy to be with. Nothing ever rattled him. He and Lenna were the quiescently “match made in heaven” couple. Loved hot cars and was a fierce competitor on the pool table. Later on, in the days when his eyesight failed him he would tell me “I can still kick your ass in pool!” One day, some of the local guys at the office put a sign on the back of Monte’s truck for a joke that said “I Hate Locals” and he drove all the way home not knowing. Probably the only haole guy to ever get away with that!! He just laughed when they called him to tell him to take the sign off! Bye Monte, you lived well!
During one of first winters on Maui we met Monte as he sat on his favourite perch: his front porch. Our dog Jax insisted visiting Monte and Lena during our walks and we enjoyed many hours of conversation over the past few years. Jax looks longingly at the porch today looking for Monte. We miss him and he is in our thoughts. Love Jax, Lina and Russ
