November 8, 1959 - April 4, 2021
Charles Edward Graffuis passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 4th in Maui, Hawaii. Born on November 11th, 1959, “Chip” or “Chuck” as he was best known grew up in Atwater and graduated from Waterloo High School in 1978. He served in the U.S. Army as an Environmental Health and Safety Manager and studied at Kent State University. An avid collector, Chuck filled his personal space with things that made him happy. Marvel Comic, Jurassic Park and Star Wars memorable lined his display shelves. He was determined to pass this love down to his great nephews and nieces by gifting them Star Wars books and toys as they grew. Chuck was a voracious reader. He loved John Grisham, Stieg Larsson, Lee Child and Stephen King. He loved all types of thriller and action movies, especially those heavy on special effects. A fan of all sports, Chuck was known to intensely watch Ohio State, the Cleveland Browns, Indians and the Cavs, discussing the highs and lows of each season with passion reserved for only Ohio sports fans. Never one to shy away from a controversial topic, Chuck was engaging on all hot topics, and knew how to get a rise out of someone. He loved to “stir the pot” and was always in on the joke. Seldom a drinker, his favorite cocktail was a Mai Tai. His favorite place on earth was Maui where he would travel around seeking the best version. He would rent a Jeep, tool around the Island, and meet new friends along the way. Family does not always have to be blood related, and no one knew this better than Chuck. He will most be remembered for his devoted friendship, loyalty, trustworthiness, and wicked sense of humor. Chuck was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Ewing (Barno); stepfather, Charles Ewing; father, Lloyd Paul Graffuis; and his best friend, William Duane Huff III. He leaves behind his beloved dog “Loki”, Aunt Nancy Zeller, and many beloved cousins. He also leaves behind his chosen family: “mom” Jeannine Lizak; “brother” Adam Huff (Robin), “nephews” Cody Huff, Nick Huff (Michelle), Will Huff and Brennan Huff; “nieces” Ashley St. Pierre (Matt) and Larissa Huff; and many great-nephews and nieces. A private service will take place in Maui, HI at a future date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Humane Society of Summit County in Ohio.
