Isamu Nitta

Isamu Nitta, 94, passed away peacefully with his devoted wife at his side on March 6, 2022 at Islands Hospice in Kahului, Maui. He was born on November 18, 1927 in Kekaha, Kauai, Territory of Hawaii, to Shigenobu and Shizuno (Kubota) Nitta. After graduating from Waimea High School and studying at the University of Hawaii, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Akita, Japan where he met his beloved Diane Shoko; graduated from San Francisco State University after his military service; and enjoyed a long career as an insurance executive in Honolulu with American Mutual Underwriters, Ltd. After residing for many years on Oahu, Isamu and Diane moved to Maui in 2011. Isamu enjoyed fishing, golf with family and friends, ballroom dancing, frequent travel to Japan, and Diane’s and his karaoke club affiliations over many years with the Aiko Karaoke School (Oahu) and the Maui Karaoke Club. He loved visits from his ever-growing family and to print and display innumerable pictures of them in their home. Isamu is survived by his wife Diane Shoko; daughter Christine (Dwayne) Wada; son Dale (Leimamo) Nitta; sister Mitzie Tsunemi Nitta; grandchildren Carolyn (Kaiya Chidester) Wada, Nathan (Miki) Wada, Davin (Mikiala) Wada, Nolan (Keli) Wada, Linden (Roxanne) Wada, Ian (Tara) Nitta, Larrin (Alisa) Wada, Nami Nitta, Sharyn (Isaac) Inouye, Kainalu (Kaylie) Nitta; and 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Isamu is predeceased by siblings Aiko (Satoru) Obatake, Shizue (Shizuo) Masaki, Itsuki “Henry” (Fusako) Nitta, Tamotsu (Chieko) Nitta, Akira “Nancy” Nitta, Kiyomi “Jane” (Harumi “Harry”) Yamashita, Kinue “Elsie” (Toshio) Serizawa, Toshie (Asami “Sammy”) Kagawa, and Yoshie (Hajime “Jimmy”) Masumoto. Visitation will be held from 3-4 p.m. followed by a service from 4-5 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1300 Maui Lani Parkway, Kahului. Casual attire.
