Marlene Lee Singlehurst
September 9, 1939 - November 15, 2021
Marlene Lee (Reinika) Singlehurst, 82, of Kula, Maui got her angel butterfly wings on November 15, 2021. Marlene was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. She grew up spending summers fishing in the Columbia River and winters skiing down Mt. Hood. She visited Hawaii shortly after graduating from Portland State, fell in love with the islands, and built her life here. She served our Maui community as an educator at St. Anthony’s, King Kamehameha III Elementary, Pukalani Elementary, and Kalama Intermediate. She was a gifted artist, a passionate BYU football fan, an avid traveler, and a golf and tennis enthusiast. Above all, Marlene was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Marlene is survived by her husband, Mike; children: Heather (Ryan), John, Miki (Joe), and Keone (Beth); brother, Doug (Elaine); grandchildren: Sala (Taniela), Keone (Sarah), Isi (Makayla), Pani, Kalia, Kaia, and Evan; great-grandchildren: Micah and Eli. Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Marlene’s friends, Dr. Terada and his team at Queen’s Medical, Nurse Joyce and her team at Island Hospice, and Pastor Andrews and the St. John’s Episcopal Church community for showering Marlene and our family with so much love and support during her last months. A Celebration of Life in honor of Marlene will be held on Saturday, June 11 in Kula. Details will be determined based on COVID-19 restrictions. After her Celebration of Life, Marlene will be taken to Brush Prarie, WA, and laid to rest with her parents. In lieu of flowers, Marlene’s family asks that you consider honoring her memory by making a donation to Island Hospice or the Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center.
