Ronald N. Togashi, age 84, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2020 under the care of Hospice Maui with loving family by his side. He was born in Waipahu, Oahu, on July 9, 1936 to Harry and Hatsumi “Janet” Togashi. Ron grew up in Wahiawa and was a graduate of Leilehua High School where he played both offense and defense on the football team. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Colorado State University in 1959, majoring in agronomy and soil conservation. After graduation from college, Ron returned to Hawaii and entered the Hawaii Sugar Planters Association’s agricultural management trainee program, eventually settling in Lahaina where he worked for Pioneer Mill until his retirement as weed control coordinator. Ron was a member of Lahaina Hongwanji where he was a long-serving board member and past president. He served on the board of Pioneer Mill Federal Credit Union and was an officer of the Lahaina Honolua Senior Citizens Club. Ron loved to travel, and with his wife Eileen made cross-country Mainland trips to visit many national parks. He also enjoyed cruising, especially to Alaska. A highlight of his travels was an around the world cruise. The food was an added treat! Ron always said that his greatest achievement was his children. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Eileen Togashi Exton, son Kirk (Joni) Togashi, daughter Ronda (Stanley) Miller, and granddaughter Kirsti-Ann Togashi. He was predeceased by his son Dirk. He also leaves behind a brother Howard (Charlotte), sister Joan, and two nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Lahaina Hongwanji Mission. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ouchi, Dr. Poon, Dr. Kingma, and Dr. Chad Farmer as well as the nurses and staff of Kaiser, Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kahana Liberty Dialysis, and Hospice Maui for their compassionate care.
