December 18, 1935 - November 23, 2016
Virgil Caleb “Kay” Pierce died on November 23, 2016. He was born on December 18, 1935 in Brigham City, Utah. He was the fifth child of Virgil Edward Swenson Pierce and Ruth Burton Pierce. His older siblings were Edward, Betty, Ruth Marie, and Nolan. Lynette(Norm) was born after him and is the only one still living. He is also survived by his wife, Bonnie, and their three children, Kelly(Marlene), Lori, and Cindy(Joshua). He has two grandsons; Caleb and Makana Pierce and two granddaughters, Eden and Indie Pierce Lamb. He has many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, lots of cousins and one aunt and uncle. He graduated from Box Elder High School, received a Bachelors and a Masters Degree from Utah State University, a Masters Degree from Chapman College. He also served an LDS (Mormon) mission. He married Bonnie Sue Taylor on June 1, 1962. They moved from Utah in 1967 so he could attend Chapman College and after he’d earned his degree there, they decided to move to Maui where he taught at Mauna Olu College. He started teaching at Baldwin High School in the 1969-70 school year and retired in June 2000. He loved teaching American History and he loved his students. He never regretted becoming a teacher. He devoted much of his time preparing his lessons and spending extra hours helping his students before and after school, during lunch hour, and on week-ends when the Advanced Placement students were preparing for their national test for college credit. He had a good heart; he loved his family and so many others. He touched lives and was loved in return. He’ll be sorely missed. Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Maui Memorial Park - Maui View.
