Agnes Kala'i Moleta's Obituary
Agnes Kala’i Moleta, 86, of Kahului, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, surrounded by her ohana.
Agnes known to everyone as “Ma” was born on September 24, 1939, in Lanai City to Joseph and Trucilla Keanini. She was the second oldest of 10 children. She grew up in Lahaina and later moved to Pu’unene where she met her greatest love of all, the late Pedro Moleta Jr.
She worked at Woolworth’s for many years. Everyone knew her for wearing a big bunch of pikake in her hair and her crazy laugh was infectious. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Ma was also known in the boxing community as the biggest cheerleader for Central Maui Boxing Club. Cheering on her grandsons and fighters in the ring. After retiring, she helped in raising her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family. Another one of her hobbies was working in her garden. You could find her out there every day.
She leaves behind five children. Duane Moleta (Theresa), Pikake Aganos (Steve), Donovyne Moleta (Tanya), Darren Moleta (Danny) and Mercy Manangan (Alex). 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and countless hanai grandchildren that have grown up at Ma & Pa’s house throughout the years. Two brothers, Joey Keanini (Sally Lou) and Kamulea Keanini (Jill). Many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on March 20, 2026, at Nakamura Mortuary at 10:00am-12:00pm.
The Moleta family extends heartfelt gratitude to Hospice Maui for their compassionate care and support.
Ma’s presence will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
