Alan Hiyakumoto's Obituary
Alan Akira Hiyakumoto was born on Maui, on February 26, 1954, the son of Morio and Grace Hiyakumoto. He was raised in Paia and Pukalani.
He graduated from Maui High and joined the United States Navy, where he served on the Aircraft Carrier Nimitz.
On his return to Maui, he worked at various companies and retired from the County of Maui, Waiehu Golf course, where he was a mechanic.
When younger, his passion was surfing, especially at Hookipa Park. He made his own surfboard.
He liked to play golf. He would help anyone with car troubles and expected nothing in return.
He is predeceased by his parents, Morio and Grace, brothers Paul (Amy) and Carl and sister, Juliet Murakami (Clifford).
He is survived by his wife, Kwangjoo, his sons, Kiley and Bradly, brothers Larry (Tracy) Greg (Lynn), many nephews and nieces and one granddaughter.
The family extends their thanks to Maui Memorial Medical Center and Islands Hospice doctors, nurses and aides for their dedicated care.
Inurnment will take place at Makawao Veterans' Cemetery on Friday 23 August at 1pm.
