Ancil Jeremiah Clancy's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Ancil Clancy
1985 – 2025 Maui Farmer • Coffee Expert • Community Advocate • Beloved Husband and Father
With heavy hearts, we share the sudden and tragic passing of Ancil Clancy, who left this world far too soon at the age of 39 on the 12th of May 2025. Ancil passed away doing what he loved while Enduro biking on the island he called home for more than two decades — Maui.
Born in 1985, Ancil was a man of deep integrity, quiet strength, and expansive wisdom. His legacy lives on through his loving wife, Alicia Zoetewey-Clancy, and their extraordinary 16-year-old daughter, Aurora, the center of his universe. Beyond that, the family that lives on cherished him deeply, from his mother and father to his extended cousins to the family that he built through love and commitment.
Ancil’s imprint on the Maui community runs deep.
Early in his life, he worked as an arborist in National Parks as a forester, protecting the forests he loved so dearly. A devoted steward of the land, Ancil worked with unmatched reverence and skill as a farmer, playing a vital role in the success and sustainability of numerous local farms — including Ue Wai Farms, Hali‘imaile Farms, and O‘o Farms. His thoughtful approach, expert guidance, and tireless work ethic helped shape the agricultural landscape of Maui. He wasn’t just farming — he was nurturing the future.
He was also a respected coffee aficionado, frequently tapped to judge island-wide coffee competitions and regularly consulted by farmers seeking his expert palate and cultural insight. Ancil elevated not only the craft of coffee, but the entire community that grew and served it.
Outside the fields, Ancil was an avid Enduro biker who found joy in the hills and trails of Maui and beyond — always seeking out new places to ride and connect with the earth beneath him. He built a community of people that loved life with the same vibrant, fantastic joy down in the trails- and built new trails that fostered new jokes and laughter.
But more than anything, Ancil was a family man. His partnership with Alicia was joyful, grounded, and adventurous — a union filled with deep love and shared dreams. Together with Aurora, they explored the world, weaving a tapestry of travel and togetherness, from the beaches of Maui to mountain trails in Jackson Hole and Yellowstone to the mountains of Peru. They built memories marked by laughter, connection, and wild beauty — a life well-lived and deeply loved.
Ancil was known for his quiet brilliance and generous heart. His wisdom, kindness, and presence were gifts to everyone who had the honor of knowing him. Whether gathered around a Maui camp or exploring the backcountry with family, he brought strength and purpose.
Ancil’s absence leaves an enormous void, but his spirit endures in every farm he touched, every cup of coffee he inspired, and every life he uplifted.
A celebration of Ancil’s life will be held on the 25th of May at the Paia Community Center from 3 to 8PM on Maui, among the community and friends who knew and loved him dearly. There will be dinner around 5:30, music, stories, and time to celebrate his life as he would have loved - by honoring the joy that he gifted to all those he touched.
Forever in our hearts and minds.
May Ancil’s love, laughter, and legacy continue to guide us all.
