Annie (Pualani) Alves, 87 , of Paukukalo, Maui, passed away peacefully at her home on November 18th, 2022. Annie was born on July 25, 1935 to Aloka and Annie Aipa in Pukoo Molokaʻi . After graduating from Molokaʻi High School , she ventured to Maui where her beauty caught the eye of serviceman Edward Alves, whom she married in 1955. Annie and Edward established their home in the first increment of Hawaiian homes in Paukukalo. They raised four children and their home was always filled with grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Annie had an extensive and successful career in hotel hospitality. She began her early years as a waitress at the Maui Grand Hotel Restaurant, Wailuku Hotel and Maui Palms. She established herself as the food and beverage manager within both the Royal Lahaina Hotel Kaanapali and the Sheraton. She was not only known for her management skills but also gracing guests with her musical talents. She entertained guests during the Aloha Mele Luncheon and during many banquet events. She completed her hotel career as a banquet waitress at the Grand Wailea. Even in her retirement Annie continued to stay moving as much as she always did in the service industry.
For many years Annie devoted much of her time to the Veterans of Foreign War Ladies Auxiliary. She was a very active auxiliary member and traveled to many other states representing the auxiliary and even served in president positions statewide.
Annie was predeceased by her husband, Edward Alves Sr., sons, William and Edward Alves Jr. and daughter in law, Johnelle Alves. She is survived by her siblings, Gabriel Aipa, Irene Wykoff, Kuʻulei Martin, and Ah Hong Aipa, as well as her children, Georgina Andrade
(Melvin), Ronnie Alves (Imelda) and daughter in law, Emilou Alves, six grandchildren: (Kahealani, Hoʻikaika, Haunani, Hoʻokahi, Kaiʻohu, and Arielle ) 18 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Annie’s aloha and mesmerizing smile will continue to shine within the hearts of everyone.
Services will be held at Nakamura Mortuary on January 6th from 9-12, burial at 1 p.m. at Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao.
