Arnold John Baines, 80, of Kahului, died on June 17, 2011 at home under hospice care.A memorial service will be held on Thur., June 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Maui Veteran's Cemetery.Mr. Baines was born in San Francisco, California. He was the son of Lillian Beatrice Caserta and Arnold James Baines.He was a retired high school teacher in the San Mateo Union high school district.He was predeceased by his wife, Darlene Mahelona in April 2011.He is survived by his sons, James Kent, Harold Kent (Mary) McGroarty, Keoni Baines, Aaron Baines; daughters, Mary Sherne Mahelona, Shirley (Matthew) Chidester, and Sharon (John) May; grandchildren Lindsey Leichty; Joe, Jared & Kent Fonua; Sanimata Kautai; Connor & Madison McGroarty; Dillon, Kapono, Hokunani, Kalei & Kekoa Chidester and 4 great grandchildren.Arnold was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing, cooking, science, classical music and singing. He was member of the U.S. Army Infantry and affiliated with San Francisco State University (B.A. Science); University of Houston (M.S. Science); Barbershop Harmony Society (SPEBSQSA); Na Leo Lani O Maui; Mills-Peninsula, Stanford, & Maui Memorial hospital auxiliaries; Maui Arts & Cultural Center and the Kahului LDS Ward.
