Avelina "Bellie" L. Estabillo's Obituary
Avelina “Bellie” Lopez Estabillo, 84, of Lahaina, HI, formerly of Bacucang, Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on April 15, 2024.
Avelina was born on November 10, 1939, in Batac, Philippines to her parents Marcos Lopez and Demetria Pascual. She was the youngest sibling of her older brother - Fermin Lopez - and her older sister, Teresita L. Pacupac. On January 19, 1976, she began her marriage with her husband, Crisologo V. Estabillo - lasting 48 years until her passing. They conceived two children, Criselyn E. Balmores and Lowie L. Estabillo - who themselves conceived 8 total children between them.
She graduated from Batac Rural High School, attended Divine Word College of Laoag then transferred to the University of the East in Manila, Philippines - eventually attaining a Bachelor's in Business Administration for Banking and Finance. Avelina met and was courted by her husband in Manila, Philippines at the beginning of 1975 while working as a clerk at Camp Aguinaldo. After intermittently seeing each other following their marriage due to her husband’s work, in 1981, Avelina joined her husband in the United States to provide a better life for themselves and their children. Their children would later join them in 1988. She worked in a housekeeping role for most of her life at Sheraton Resort, Maui Islander, then 26 years at Hyatt Regency Resort until her retirement in 2007.
She was a wonderful matriarch who greatly cared for and supported her children and grandchildren. Hobbies she enjoyed in her life with her family included watching Filipino shows on TFC like Matanglawin or Wowowee, cooking, and going out to eat food or to enjoy the beach. In her last months of life, she especially enjoyed doing crossword puzzles in bed, watching wrestling on TV, eating Chips Ahoy Chewy Cookies, or playfully teasing her husband by yelling: “Crisologo!” while he was falling asleep on the bedroom chair. As a great role model of a humble and caring personality, she was not afraid to sooth us with gentle words (or with food) or scold us with firm words whenever we misbehaved. Her loved ones, especially her grandchildren, would of course listen to her (most of the time).
