Beatrice "Bea" Michiko Chong Kee's Obituary
In loving memory of Beatrice Michiko Chong Kee (née Hayama), who graced this world with her presence on June 24, 1933, and departed peacefully on March 22, 2024. Born in Honolulu and a longtime resident of Maui, Beatrice was a beacon of light in her community.
A meticulous accountant for Maui Electric, Beatrice’s legacy extends beyond her professional achievements. Her passion for culture and service shone brightly through her volunteer work. She imparted the art of hula, embracing the dance’s ability to tell stories and connect generations. Her dedication to Hale Makua was unparalleled; she provided accounting services every Friday since 1999, amassing over 3,500 hours of service in 17 years.
Beatrice’s was survived by her son, Wayne Yoshimura, brother Keith Hayama, sister Betty Higashino, step-children, Jackie Hokoana, Pat Chong Kee, Greg Chong Kee and many grand and great-grandchildren.
Her spirit will continue to inspire those she touched, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many lives she enriched through her kindness and volunteerism.
A Celebration of Bea’s life will be held on April 29, 2024 at Nakamura Mortuary located at 1218 Lower Main Street, Wailuku, Hawaii 96793. Public visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by a service from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; burial service will be at 12:30 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Maui County First Responder Relief Fund (kaainamomona.org) in honor of Beatrice’s commitment to her community.
Rest in peace, dear Beatrice. Your journey was one of purpose, love, and immense contribution. You will be dearly missed.
