Benjamin Castanares Juario, Sr.'s Obituary
Benjamin Castanares Juario, Sr, 78, of Kahului, Maui, Hawaii, passed away November 1, 2014, in Sagay City, Negros Occ., PI. He was born the sixth of nine children, on August 9, 1936, in Puunene, Maui, HI, to parents, Hermojenes Juario and Segunda Castanares Juario.
Benjamin attended Puunene School on Maui until the 4th grade, when his family moved to the Philippines, and he attended Cebu Elementary School. He graduated from Taraon Institute of Technology High School, PI. After graduation, Benjamin open Benny’s Coffee shop in Brgy. Paraiso, PI, of which he and his family are still fondly known. Benjamin married Nida Cabahug on October 24, 1954, in the Parris Santo Rosario Catholic Church, in the Philippines. He moved back to Maui in 1978, taking work with American Fence Company, from which he retired in 2000. Benjamin was a devout catholic, who believed and lived by the scriptures.
Benjamin was a hardworking, respectful man. His greatest joy and accomplishment was singlehandedly working to bring each of his eight children from the Philippines to the United States, and reuniting his family together here on Maui.
Benjamin was a fisherman. Fishing was his favorite activity, next to talking story. He loved to talk story to anybody about anything… and all the better if he was talking story about fishing. He also loved listening to the oldies, especially Elvis and Frank Sinatra.
Benjamin was a funny, meticulous, fun-loving, lovable, jokester of a man, who was predeceased by his sons, Nelson and Ildefonso, and his grandson, Jayson. He will be missed dearly by those who survived him… his wife of 60 years, Nida Juario, his sons, Benjamin (Genedin) Juario, Jr., Edilberto (Shirley) Juario, and Edsel (Jesusa) Juario, his daughters, Alberta (Albert) Santos, Elizabeth Juario, Mylene (Byron) Tavares, his sisters, Mary (John) Ocampo, and Sally (Frank) Augustiro, his 11 grandchildren, and his 4 great grandchildren.
A night wake for Mr. Juario will be held at Nakamura Mortuary on Friday, November 28, 2014, with visitation at 5:00pm, and services at 6:00pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, November 29, 2014, 9:00am, at Nakamura Mortuary, with services at 9:30am. Interment services will follow, 10:30am, at Maui Memorial Park, Garden of Meditation.
