Betty R. Oura's Obituary
Betty Ritsuko Oura, 89, of Kahului passed away at home under the care of Island Hospice on March 28, 2018.
Private services honoring Mrs. Oura was held at Wailuku Hongwanji Mission on Sunday, April 8, 2018. Nakamura Mortuary assisted with arrangements.
Mrs. Oura was born in Puunene on December 1, 1928 to Hisashi and Shizuko Hashimoto. In her youth Mrs. Oura was a avid swimmer and was a
member of the famed Three-Year Swim Club. She graduated from St. Anthony High school.
Mrs. Oura retired from Ah Fooks Supermarket. Previous to that she was employed at the family business Hashi Okazuya on Market street.
After retirement Mrs. Oura became a avid quilter. Her gifts of wall hangings, pillows, and blankets were cherished by those who received them.
Mrs. Oura was predeceased by her husband Robert Oura, daughter Gwendolyn Higa, brother Bob Hashimoto.
She leaves behind her son Michael Oura; brother, Stanley (Joyce) Hashimoto; sisters, Mary Tokumaru, Rena (Anthony) Pizza, Chisato Lily (Howard)
Harada; sister-in-law, Jane Hashimoto; grandsons, Brent (Sherry) Higa, Rusty Higa; great-grandson, Perrin Higa.
As per Mrs. Oura’s wishes the family requests no Koden or monetary gifts.
