Bret DeYoung's Obituary
Bret DeYoung, age 65, passed away on March 22, 2026, in Kihei, Hawaii.
Bret was born on March 16, 1961, in Portland, Oregon, to James Jess DeYoung and Shirley Ruth Brown. He built a career in construction in Oregon, where he owned and operated a general contracting business in Bend.
In 2013, Bret moved to Hawaii, where he continued his work in construction, managing framing companies and contributing to projects on both Maui and Oahu.
Bret was a devoted father to his children, Cory DeYoung (37), Kristi DeYoung (34), and Kaden DeYoung (9). He shared Cory and Kristi with his first wife, Angie DeYoung, and Kaden with Kalea “Stephanie” DeYoung. He was also a stepfather to Kalea’s sons, Sean, Lleyton, and Reid.
Bret valued hard work, connection, and time with those close to him. He will be remembered for the relationships he built and the role he played in the lives of his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Shirley; his children; his grandchildren, Harlin, Noah, and Lennon; extended family; and all who knew him throughout his life in Oregon and Hawaii.
Bret “Dad” and “Grandpa” will be remembered with love.
