Carol Ritchings Hayashida's Obituary
Carol Ritchings Hayashida passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on May 18, 2026. She was born on June 19, 1945 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania to Robert and Doris Ritchings. Growing up, she was an accomplished swimmer and loved attending summer camp. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, she became a teacher before eventually attending the University of Hawaii to earn her master's degree in social work. This is where she met her husband, Jerold, and after marrying, decided to stay in Hawaii, where sons David and Jeffrey were born. After living on Molokai and Oahu, they made Maui their forever home.
After 25+ years of dedicated service as a social worker for the State of Hawaii licensing preschools and day care facilities, she spent her retirement going to Vegas several times a year, traveling throughout the US and around the world, including Japan, Canada, South America, and even Antarctica. She also volunteered many hours at the Maui Friends of the Library and at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.
Carol is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jerold "Jerry", sons David
(Jennifer) and Jeffrey, her brother William (Paula) Ritchings and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Maria of Nursing Care Hawaii, and Island Hospice for their kind and compassionate support. A private family service will be held. Her family requests no koden.
