Chieko Kawabata's Obituary
Chieko Kawabata, 91, of Lahaina, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.
Services honoring Mrs. Kawabata will be held at Lahaina Hongwanji Mission on Saturday, June 11. Visitation will begin at 10am, with memorial services beginning at 11am. Nakamura Mortuary is
assisting with arrangements.
Chieko was born on July 17, 1923 to Yasuto & Sugi Shibao. In her early years, she was a food preparer for Baldwin Packers, and later Maui Pine. She married Isamu Kawabata and together
they raised three children. She was affectionately known as "Aunty Chi" by friends and family, as she became the favorite aunt and family babysitter.
Chieko was predeceased by her husband, Isamu Kawabata. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons, Dean (Charlene) & Walter Kawabata; daughter, Dawn (Andrew Amano) Kawabata; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many adoring nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
