Gunbeh (Cheers in Korean), Dexter!
Dexter left us way too soon. I had just spoken with him maybe a week or two prior. Called to thank him for the shirts he had sent. The shirts read: "How to Pick Up Chicks". Under it were three illustrated pictures. The first showed a turtle bending down. The second with the turtle cautiously reaching his arms and hands forward. The third of the turtle gently picking up and cradling a baby chick :baby_chick:. Dexter exclaimed... "You're going to love this shirt! It's soooo cute!". Many may not have known or seen this side of him. Beneath that tough exterior was a softer and gentler side. We're going to miss you Dex! You're in heaven with Irwin and the rest of your family. And at peace! Take care! God Bless! Glenn
My Friend Is Gone
I still find it hard to believe that Dexter (Dex) has left this earth for heaven. Dex is now reunited with all his immediate family members that have been waiting for him to enter the pearly gates of heaven. He told me various times that Irwin, his twin brother would be the first one to welcome him to heaven. Dex was my best friend and was truly like a brother to me. His passing leaves a void as we shared a special bond together going back to 1975. Dex and I would talk on the phone at least once a week. He would keep me updated on the weekly gatherings at his neighbor's garage and of course, the bar scene on Maui. Whenever he ended our telephone conversations, he would say, "this is Howard Cosell." If he attempted to call me and I missed his call, he would leave a message and end it with, "Do not call back, you're not Korean." He always wanted to make people laugh. Dex was truly one of a kind.
I will always remember all the good times we shared together, and I ask all of you who may read this memory of Dex to also reflect on all the good times you shared with him. I'm sure that you will laugh and shed a few tears.
Well, my friend, may you rest in eternal peace and for one final time, may I steal your closing line and say to you, "this is Howard Cosell"
My fondest aloha to you bruddah,
George Yamasaki, Jr.
