Donald Shimada's Obituary
Donald Kenji Shimada, 92 peacefully passed away at his home in
Kahului, Maui on March 12, 2022. He was born on August 21,1929 in
Puunene to Shoichi and Moto Shimada. Donald was the second of
four sons, Robert, Richard and Harry, and he grew up in McGerrow
Camp. He graduated from Baldwin High School and was employed
at A & B Commercial Co.
Donald married Ruth Mihoko Yokoyama in1951 and shared over 70
years together. They had 4 daughters: Rene, Cheryl, Mavis and
Dawn.
Donald loved and enjoyed life. He traveled to Reno, Las Vegas, San
Fransisco, went on an Alaskan cruise, fishing in Yap and Palau.
He was very hospitable and had friends and family over the house
often. Every Thursday afternoon some of his former classmates
would come over to the house to socialize. For many years, every
Wednesday and Friday evenings he and his friends would get
together at the house. As all of them got older, they continued their
get togethers every Friday evening. Every year they had a “super”
Super Bowl party at the house until February of 2020, then Covid19
ended it.
Donald now joins his parents, and Robert and Jane, Richard and
Harry in death.
He leaves behind his wife, Ruth. His sister-in-laws, Naomi and Janet
Shimada. Daughters: Rene Denny (Harry), Cheryl Correa (Wayne),
Mavis Hokutan (Joey), Dawn Nagamine (Paul), 6 grandchildren and 13
great grandchildren.
Due to Covid19, a private service was held. We want all to stay safe.
Special thanks to Islands Hospice and Nursing Care Hawaii for their
compassionate and loving care.
