Earl Vida's Obituary
Born on September 21, 1959 to Royal George and Rosaliend Vida in Wailuku. Earl was raised in Waikapu with his siblings, Royal “Lono”, Eric, Carole, and Denny where Earl and his siblings tended to their family piggery. He attended Wailuku Elementary, Iao School, then graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1977. While attending St. Anthony he met his wife Melissa and they had their oldest daughter Shannon in 1976. In 1978 Earl and Melissa were married at Christ the King Church in Kahului and soon thereafter completed their family with four other children, Kelly, Earl Jr., Mahealani, and Mandi.
Earl started his career in the hotel industry working at the InterContinental hotel but then ventured into the construction industry working for various employers, Fong Construction, EE Black, Fletcher Pacific, PB Sullivan, and GoodFellow Brothers combining for a total of 34 years.
With Early being an athlete he took to the sports community and in 1984 with Kenneth Ferreira and Bobby Estrella formed the Pukalani Broncos Pee Wee Team and it didn’t end there he went on with his coaching career in 1992 to the Kahului Warriors Program.
Even following retirement from coaching football he went on to coach the Swoosh women’s softball team with long time friend, Dexter Au. As if he didn’t have enough under his belt, he also coached the Kua Aina girl’s softball team.
Earl stayed active in the sports sector with his grandchildren’s actives which included, soccer, softball, baseball, football, and in the present time wrestling.
His prize possession was his family and extended family. Earl was always one to put others first and cherish the times he was able to spend with both family and friends. His legacy will continue to live on. He will be truly missed by many.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at St. Anthony Church beginning at 10am. A luncheon will follow the Burial at Maui Memorial Park and held at the St. Anthony School Ball Park.
Earl’s family would like to express our deepestest gratitude to all our family and friends for all the love, support, and generosity during this difficult time. The love and kindness that you have shared with us will always be remembered.
