Eileen Ostberg Hintzen's Obituary
Eileen was born to Herman and Alma Selnes Dalager on the family farm south of Glenwood, Minnesota on March 23rd, 1926. Her mother was thrilled she was a girl, so that her older daughter, Lavina, could have a sister. Alma had grown up with five brothers.
Following high school graduation, Eileen attended Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where she met Norman C Ostberg. They were married in 1948 and had two children, Paul and Rachel. She taught Literature and Social Studies in Pillager, Minnesota. Following Norman's death in 1953, Eileen taught school in Brandon to support her son and daughter.
In 1956, she married Richard Fowler Hitzen, who also had a daughter and a son, Mark and Mark. The family moved to San Diego, where Richard was stationed in the U.S. Navy at Point Loma. Their fifth child, Hans, was born in 1957, while they were living in California. The family returned to Minnesota in 1960 and lived on Eileen's parents' farm. The later moved to Alexandria, Minnesota, living in Victoria Heights, then moving into town on Cedar Street in 1972. Eileen continued to teach at Starbuck High School and Alexandria Junior High. When Richard retired from his job as Alexandria City Assessor, they moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Eileen and Richard (Bud) enjoyed many years of golf and bridge, at which she became a Master Tournament player. Eileen was also a representative for Jafra skin care products, which she enthusiastically shared with friends and family. She was an active volunteer, first at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, and later as a Stephen Minister at Christ Lutheran Church in Hot S[prings Village. Richard passed away in 2002.
