Emily Garcia Fernandez's Obituary
Emily Garcia Fernandez, 101, of Wailuku, passed away peacefully at home under the compassionate care of Islands Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.
Services honoring Mrs. Fernandez will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Monday, May 8, 2017. Visitation will begin at 10:00am, with Mass beginning at 11:00am. Mrs. Fernandez will be laid to eternal rest at Maui Memorial Park—Garden of Meditation at 12:30pm. Family requests casual attire.
Emily was born on August 25, 1915 in Wailuku to Antonio & Juana Garcia.
In 1933, she married her love, Santiago “Chargo” Fernandez, and together they raised 7 children. Mrs. Fernandez retired from Maui Land & Pineapple Co. after 18 years as a trimmer. In her younger years, Emily loved playing baseball and fishing. As she got older, she focused more on her orchid green house, garden, playing pokino with her children, and spoiling her cockatiel, Chico.
In Heaven, Emily will join her beloved husband of 84 years, Mr. Santiago “Chargo” Fernandez, and their son, Steven Fernandez Jr., and a daughter, Laurie Ann Ishii.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters, Sally Carvalho, Violet (Domingo) Troche, Martha (Joseph Basque) Diaz, Margaret (Gordon) Franco & Shirley Nobriga; son, John (Patricia) Fernandez; 26 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
