Ethel Lorraine Tanaka, 87 of
Kahului, passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2023. She was born on August 17, 1935, in Pu’unene, Maui. Daughter of Antone & Emily Gouveia, she retired from Maui Beach Hotel and enjoyed retirement with friends and family.
She is survived by sons, Alan Funes, Guy Funes, Norman Tanaka, Kurt Tanaka, Jimmy Tanaka, daughter Stephanie (Jose) Madera-Torres; five grandchildren, Dustan (Jazmine) Funes, Rowan (Charmaine) Funes, Raeann (Robert) Merry, Kaiolohia (Maile) Funes-Smith, Puanani (Michael) Kalalau and 13 great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her spouse, Norman Tanaka Sr. and her parents Antone & Emily Gouveia; son Stephen Funes; sisters Eleanor Apolo, Margret Smith; brothers John & George Gouveia.
Services will be held on Saturday February 25th, 2023, at Nakamura’s Mortuary in Wailuku.
Visitation will start at 9:30am with services at 11:00am and burial to follow.
