Faaoso, Malui'fonua, Salote Tone & Tony Takafua's Obituary
Malui’fonua Tone (73) and Fa’aoso Tone (70) and their daughter Salote Tone (39) and her son Tony (7) of Lahaina sadly left us on August 8, 2023 in the Lahaina fire. Fa’aoso and Malui’fonua moved here in 1995 from Vava’u, Tonga with their children. Their intentions were to move to California but they fell in love with Lahaina and stayed. Fa’aoso was a stay at home mom and Malui’fonua worked primarily in restaurants and hotels. Malui’fonua retired at 63 and focused on farming and helping his wife raise their grandchildren. They were faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and very involved within their Tongan community.
Salote spent her whole life at her parent’s side. When her parents moved, she was in middle school at Lahaina Intermediate and eventually graduated from Lahainaluna. She worked in industries like restaurants, car rentals and real estate. She loved to have fun and be with her friends and family. When her son, Tony, was born in 2015 he was her sole purpose. Tony was spoiled but still kind and gentle. He loved going to school and spending time with his cousins.
They are all survived by Sitanilei, Saane, Folau and Holly and their children.
Their oldest son, Sitanilei, moved to Lahaina from Tonga years later with his wife Lose and their children Paea, Siale, Fa’aoso, Joylin and Taina. They now reside in Utah.
Saane, was 18 when she moved with her parents from Tonga and worked at restaurants and hotels like her father. Later on, she married Kevin Tanaka and have three children: Bobby, Jun Jun, and Jamee who all reside in Kahului today.
Folau graduated from Lahainaluna and has been in Lahaina most of his life. Folau married Sabrina Bernardini and have four children: Liliana, Siosiua, Aurelia, and Keuli. They all lived with Fa’aoso and Malui’fonua and the kids loved drinking cocoa with grandma and grandpa.
Their youngest daughter, Holly, was born in 1999 and graduated from Lahainaluna in 2017. She moved to Reno and graduated from the University of Nevada in 2021. In 2022, she moved back to Lahaina.
Their funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints at 1300 Maui Lani Parkway. Viewing from 9am to 12pm, service from 12pm to 1pm. They will be laid to rest at Maui Memorial Park, Garden of Meditation at 2pm.
