The family requests casual attire.
Filomena was born on August 22, 1930, in Apaya, Laoag City, Philippines. Before moving to Maui in 1983 with her two youngest children, she was an owner of a small business she started with her late husband, Teofilo Pascua. After moving to Maui, she worked at the Maui Marriott Resort Kaanapali until she retired in 1995.
Known for her kindness and compassion, she was very devoted to her family. Widowed in 1970, she ensured her older children and their families, who were not able to immigrate to Maui when she did, were eventually able to join her and her other children on Maui. In doing so, she united her family, provided a better life for them, and reestablished and maintained deep family unity.
Her passion for sewing had begun when she graduated, with honors, from the Lazo School of Fashion & Arts, in Laoag City. Her older brother Benigno’s wife, Luciana, was instrumental in providing support needed for her to attend the school. After retirement, Filomena had more time to utilize her “green thumb” in gardening, and to enjoy looking after her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Making sure you would have something in your tummy, she always had a warm pot of steamed rice ready for you when you stop by her home. And if you are celebrating New Year’s Eve with her, she would hand you, just before midnight, a dollar or a two-dollar bill for good luck, ensuring you don’t have an empty pocket going into the new year.
She leaves behind to cherish and honor her memory: her children, Elena (Elmor) Victoriano, Pacita (Joel) Reyes, Anita (Francis) Flores, and Johnny (John Pahia) Pascua; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Kaiwi Pascua; her sister, Anita Murrf; grandchildren, Trisha, Dominic, May Ann, Maricon, Darrin, Joy, Sheina, Jasmine, Jaycelle, Charity, and Nichole; great grandchildren, Carlington Jr., Jamaeia, Julieanne, Nicole, Dale, Darrin Jr., Onaizah, Zairex, Lexi, and Jenna; and her sisters-in-law, Juanita dela Cruz, and Mary dela Cruz.
In heaven, Filomena joins her husband, Teofilo; her son, Daniel; her brothers, Benigno (Luciana) dela Cruz, and Gregorio dela Cruz; and her sisters, Felonita (Filemon) Aguinaldo, Esperanza (Alejo) Gudal, Augustina (Andres) Sotto, and Dorotea (Rustico) Santos.
The family extends their gratitude to the physicians and staff at the Kaiser Permanente and Hospice Maui, and the staff at Maui Adult Day Care and Bayada Home Health Care for the love, care, and support they gave to Filomena.
