Florida Alagano Batoon's Obituary
Florida Alagano “Flor” Batoon, age 81, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, in Wailuku, Hawaii. A devoted wife, mother, and “Mama” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Flor’s life was marked by resilience, dedication, and love for her family and community.
Born on February 28, 1944, in San Rafael, San Nicolas, Pangasinan in the Philippines, Flor was the daughter of Cris and Donata Alagano. From an early age, she demonstrated a strong work ethic and a passion for nurturing others—qualities that would define her personal and professional life.
Flor pursued higher education with determination. She earned a degree in Food Nutrition from M.I.T. in the Philippines and later continued her studies at Maui Community College in Hawaii, where she obtained a Culinary Degree. Her educational journey reflected her lifelong commitment to learning and self-improvement.
Her career began humbly as a pineapple picker for Dole Company. During the summers, she also worked as a kitchen helper for the same company. These early roles laid the foundation for her future in food service and hospitality. Later, she served as a student aide at Lanai Elementary & High School before becoming a kitchen helper there.
In 1982, Flor moved with her family to Maui—a pivotal moment that marked the beginning of her long-standing career at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Starting as a kitchen aide, she steadily advanced through hard work and perseverance until retiring as Cook III. Her dedication to her work left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients alike.
Flor’s life was deeply rooted in faith and family. She worshipped at Saint Anthony of Padua Church and Lanai Sacred Hearts Church throughout her life. At home, she found joy in simple pleasures: sewing intricate patterns by hand, crocheting delicate pieces for loved ones, quilting with care, solving word find puzzles with quiet focus, singing karaoke with enthusiasm, traveling to new places with curiosity, taking walks with her beloved husband Benjamin Batoon Sr., and lovingly babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Benjamin Batoon Sr.; daughters Arlene Alboro (Chris) and Jenny Batoon; sons Benjamin Batoon Jr. and Neil Aldrin Batoon; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.
Flor was preceded in death by her parents Cris Alagano and Donata Alagano.
