Franklyn L. Silva Sr.'s Obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Captain Franklyn Lawrence Silva, U.S. Army retired, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Franklyn left us peacefully at home on March 22, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Born on May 23, 1942, in Wailuku, Hawaii, to Antone and Lucy Silva, Franklyn's life was one of dedication and service. He is survived by his loving wife, Valerie E. Silva; his children, Franklyn L. Silva, Jr., Layne (Stacey) Silva, and Gene (Alyssa) Silva; his grandchildren, Layne “LJ” Silva Jr. (Shalei Morales), Jeremiah (Ann Lorraine) Silva, Gene “Kea” Silva, and Christian Silva; and his great-grandchildren, Jaedyn Mae Silva, Samson Silva, Liam Silva and Mila Silva. He also leaves behind his sisters, Marian Pu’u, Barbara “Cookie” (Harold) Rodrigues, and Claudia Thompson.
A proud Vietnam Veteran, Franklyn served two tours with honor and courage. His commitment to his community continued as he served as the Director of the Department of Liquor Control for the County of Maui, from which he retired after 33 years of exemplary service.
We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating Franklyn's life on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at St. Joseph Church in Makawao. Family visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by public visitation at 10:00 a.m. A Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., and the interment with military honors will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Maui Veterans Cemetery.
Franklyn's legacy is one of love, honor, and integrity. He touched many lives, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him. We bid farewell to a remarkable man who lived life fully and left the world a better place.
