George Ballao Sr's Obituary
Kahului, Hawaii - George Ballao Sr., 87, of Kahului, Maui,
passed away on January 29, 2026,
surrounded by his family.
Born on October 27, 1938, in
Ho'olehua, Moloka'i, to Estaneslao and
Gladys Katsuko Ballao, George grew up
on Moloka'i, later moving to O'ahu and
eventually making his home on Maui.
In 1958, he started a 32-year career with
Hawaiian Dredging as a laborer and
advanced to general superintendent.
In 1991, he joined Albert C. Kobayashi
and worked as Vice President until his
retirement in 2011.
George is survived by his wife, Barbara
Ballao ; sons George Ballao
Jr. (Jeannie) and Bert Ballao; daughter
Stephanie Ballao-Villiarimo (Greg);
grandsons Alika Ballao and Kealii
Ballao; granddaughters Melia ʻUʻu, Paden Iwasaki, and Mekenna Ballao; great-grand children AJ, Kali, Meleana, Jayse, Jonah, and Noah; sister Irene Aguilar
and brother Raymond Ballao (Victoria); and half-brothers Take Nishiyama and Tanko
Nishiyama.
He was preceded in death by his father, Estaneslao Ballao; mother, Gladys Katsuko Ballao
(née Ishikawa); brother, James Ballao; and half-siblings Kent Nishiyama and Linko
Fukunaga (née Nishiyama).
A celebration of life will be held at Nakamura Mortuary on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Private family visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by public
visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.,
with reception to follow from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and burial at 2:00 p.m. at Maui
Memorial Park, Maui View section, Wailuku, Maui
