George Hashizaki Sr.'s Obituary
George Yoji Hashizaki. Sr. of Pukalani passed away on July 30, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born in Puunene on January 3, 1931, and spent his younger days in Spreckelsville, developing a love of the ocean that would last a lifetime. When not at the beach, George was happiest being surrounded by plants and trees, enjoying the simplicity and wonder of nature, especially in Iao Valley. After retiring his job as a County of Maui Engineer Aid, he spent time gardening and traveling and then tackled his most important jobs – school transporter, snack preparer, pancake chef and entertainer/ magician for his grandchildren.
George is survived by his daughters Colleen (Harvey) Mira & Lynne (Peter) Yonamine; son Kyle (Tammy) Hashizaki; grandchildren Kellen (Kelcee) Mira, Taryn (Alex) Oubre, Ryan & Reid Yonamine, Kayla & Kaysea Hashizaki, and Kylie & Stone Hashizaki; great-grandchildren Evan Oubre, Kairie & Stormi Hashizaki; daughter-in-law Dyan Hashizaki; sister Diane Misaki. He was greeted in heaven by his wife Dorothy and his son George Jr.
Our family is grateful to Pastor Paul Kaneshiro and Pukalani Baptist Church members and Hospice Maui. We’d like to thank Marikit Cardon and her family for welcoming Dad into their home, providing truly compassionate care, and creating an atmosphere of joy and laughter during his final months.
Private services were held.
