Geri Anne Wells Enos' Obituary
Geri Anne Wells Enos, 76, passed away on June 16, 2019, surrounded by her family at home in Pukalani. She was born on January 21, 1943, in Palmer, Massachusetts.
Geri is survived by her daughters, Kaiulani (Kris) Galon and Pualani (Chris Dunn) Enos; grandchildren Claire Mahealani Dunn, Kamakana Galon, Oliver Keahiulaokala Dunn, Dylan Kaiwakumakaopua Dunn, Kalahikiola Henry Galon and Kameamahieokalani Amelia Galon; siblings, Penelope Wells, Cynthia (Norman Grannis) Wells and Harry (Gloria) Wells; and niece, Danielle Epstein and nephews, Sol Samuels, Aaron Samuels, Jared Herbert, Richard Wells, Tony Herbert and Goeffrey Wells.
Before moving to Maui in 2003, Geri had always held profound appreciation for Hawaii and the Hawaiian way of life, holding the dream that she would someday move her girls to live immersed in this extraordinary culture of their ancestors. She is a living example of how we are not limited by what we know and the cards we are dealt; we all have a choice to be the kind of person we want to be, of the life we want for ourselves. She believed that personal accountability for learning all the facts, consideration of various perspectives, and valuing all forms of life would ensure civility and restore humanity in our fast-paced, complex world. No matter how big the obstacles, nor how hopeless things looked, she never gave up the pursuit of what was right and good, not only for her girls but also the immediate world around her. She worked tirelessly to create a better life for her girls, relying on the kindness and generosity of community members and enjoyed doing the same for others in need whenever she could. She expressed gratitude every day, for being embraced in Maui, to support her daughters and her beloved son-in-laws, and to raise her grandchildren.
Geri was first and foremost a remarkable mother and grandmother and a good and tender friend to many. She taught us that each of us has an infinite capacity which is more powerful than any possession or position. It doesn’t cost anything and the more you give, the more it grows with goodness that is exponential.
Geri was, and always will be, a caring presence in our lives. Her, bright smile, quick humor and loving concern for others, and her unshakable belief in freedom and justice will stay with us for the rest of our days. While her leaving this earth was sudden and unexpected, now she is surrounded by the angels as they welcome home one of their own.
To honor Geri’s memory is simple, if not always easy: never judge another until you have walked in his/her shoes; be grateful and be humble; do your best to understand the other – especially when you vehemently disagree; accept the flaws and foibles of those you love because we all have them; remember, it’s not our mistakes that define us, but how we choose to make things right; always choose to be kind over being right; and when you are feeling low, do something kind for someone else who needs it without them knowing it. Fear builds walls instead of bridges…pursue a life of bridges.
Geri was grateful to her community at Maui YMCA, Kaiser Permanente Bariatric, and Maui Humane Society for supporting her health and wellness. The family is grateful to Hospice Maui for their exceptional care, compassion and expeditious resources which made it possible to fulfil Geri’s wishes to live her final days of her life in comfort and peace in the privacy of her home surrounded by loved ones.
The family will be hosting a private gathering to celebrate her life later this month.
