Guillermo M. Tamayo's Obituary
Our patriarch, husband, father, and grandfather, Guillermo Martillano Tamayo, of Lāhainā, Maui passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024, at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center on O‘ahu. He was 85 years old. “Imong”, as many called him, was born on February 8, 1939 to the late Felix and Eugenia Tamayo, in Solsona, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.
On March 7, 1961, Guillermo married Jovita Badua in the Philippines and together they had three children: Joel, Elizabeth, and Randolph. They owned and operated a Singer Sewing Machine Dealer-JBT Enterprise, in Laoag City. Guillermo was the sewing machine mechanic. On May 5, 1969, they moved to Lāhainā, Maui to begin their new journey. In 1971 their youngest child Miriam was born.
Guillermo worked as a maintenance irrigator at the Lāhainā Pioneer Mill Company and retired in 1999, after 35 years of service. He also worked as a waiter at the former Moby Dick’s Maui restaurant at the Royal Lahaina Resort for 20 years. Also, he was a Referral Specialist for Rising Sun as an Honorary Kupuna.
Guillermo is survived by his loving wife Jovita Badua Tamayo, and his four children: Joel (Debra), Elizabeth (Elipidio) Berganio, Randolph (Jennifer) Tamayo, and Miriam (Jarrad) Kalua; and his five grandchildren: Iris (Christopher) Parker, Ivan, Trystin Kapono, Laurel, and Christopher.
Guillermo is also survived by his sisters Rosalina (late Juan) Domingo and Eufrecina (late Pepe) Guillermo and many nieces and nephews.
Guillermo is preceded in death by siblings Gregorio (late Nena) Tamayo, Esperanza (late Vicente Sr.) Sanchez, Florentina (late Alejandro) Andres and Amparo (late Bienivido) Ligot.
For many that knew him, he had the biggest heart and the most radiant smile. He was a hardworker and a good provider for his family. He was an avid reader of the Bible at night, loved the Bible and he had a strong faith in God.
Our father, husband and grandfather, you will be deeply missed, and we love you very much! The legacy you left us, we will continue to carry on in our lives. You will always be in our memory and heart.
Wake and visitation to honor Guillermo will be held at Nakamura Mortuary, 1218 Lower Main St., Wailuku. The visitation will be on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 6pm-9pm. Eulogy at 7pm.
Visitation and funeral service on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 9am-12noon.
The burial will follow at 12:30pm, Maui Memorial Park’s Garden Of Meditation, 551 Waiale Road, Wailuku HI.
