Helen Percy's Obituary
Dr. Percy was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Russian immigrants. She learned English, Spanish and French by age 12. She ultimately became a nurse, taught nursing, then became a doctor in 1958, had her daughter Valentina in 1961, moved to Maui in 1968, and for 43 years was a doctor with the Maui Medical Group in Lahaina. As a doctor Helen co-founded the Maui AIDS Foundation. She made a Lahaina bank give home loans to women. She was a legendary geisha bon dancer of Maui. She was a devoted, lifetime member of Lahaina Jodo Mission. Dr. Percy passed away on November 10, 2018 peacefully, surrounded by her daughter and granddaughters Afua Shin and Lara Watson, and is now in the Pure Land of Amida Buddha. Her funeral service will be on December 1, 218 at 4:00 p.m. at Lahaina Jodo Mission.
