Irvin H Yamada's Obituary
Irvin Hiroshi Yamada, 68, of Wailuku passed away on August 2, 2019 at his home in Wailuku.
Irvin was born in Puunene, Maui on December 2, 1950 to Hiroichi and Satoko Yamada of Paia.
He is survived by his wife Laura, sister Evelyn (Wayne) Kajiwara, mother in law Mildred Kuniyoshi, brother in law David (Shirley) Kuniyoshi, sister in law Judy (John) Yano, niece Tracie (Joel) Keomalu, nephews Jason Yano and Jeffrey Kajiwara and grandniece Hailee Keomalu.
Irvin grew up in Paia and went to Paia Elementary School. He later went on to the old Maui High School and Maui Community College.
Irvin is best known as the owner of Photography By Irvin. He was the first Master of Photography from Professional Photographers of America from Maui. In his younger years he was active in the Maui Camera Club and was in charge of the photography exhibit and then moved on to be a judge for the county fair for many years. He was also active in the Maui Jaycees. He was an active member of the Hawaii Professional Photographers and helped to organize the Maui Professional Photographers.
In his later years, he was an honorary member of I Company, part of the 442nd Regimental Combat Unit. His job was to primarily assist in organizing lunches for the veterans and their wives and providing bingo prizes. Irvin loved fishing, photography and “talking story” on Mondays at Lona Ridge.
He was a kind and gentle soul and he will be missed by many.
Visitation will be at Wailuku Hongwanji Temple on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 10:30 am, service to begin at 11:30 am.
