Isabella Kahahane Gabin Thompson's Obituary
Isabella Kahahane Gabin Thompson, A.K.A. (BELLA), 92 of Wailuku, passed away on December 13, 2023, at Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Bella was born on July 28, 1931. She is the daughter of the late Kimo and Mary Kahahane from Mala, Lahaina.
Bella was a retired Executive Housekeeper for the former Maui Lu Resort Hotel.
Bella was better known for her locally owned & operated “LA BELLA” Taxi Company. She and her husband, Ron Thompson serviced the island of Maui with their taxi company for forty-two years before she became very ill, and their company shut down on July 1, 2022. Thank you, Maui, for your continued support to LA BELLA TAXI COMPANY throughout the many years.
Bella had two sisters; Catherine Kahahane Asami and Mary Kahahane Lacar; Seven brothers; George Kahahane, Frank Kahahane, Andrew Kahahane, James Kahahane, Joseph Kahahane, John Kahahane and Antonio Mendes, all deceased.
Bella had five children: Stanley James (Sherri) Gabin, Jade Mapuana Gabin (Mike) Riley AND
Deceased – Joseph Makani Gabin, John Bradford Gabin and Stewart Jasen Gabin.
Bella later married Ron Thompson and they adopted her granddaughter, Aloha Thompson.
Bella had thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.
Bella will be cremated. Her ashes will remain with her children until a Celebration of Life Service can be arranged. Her final resting place will be with her grandmother (abuela – Isabella Castro) at Maria Lanakila Cemetery in her hometown of Lahaina, Maui.
