Jared "Blackie" "Skippy" Leroy Kaholokula's Obituary
Jared Leroy Kaholokula July 12, 1934 - April 1, 2024 Jared Leroy Kaholokula, 88 of Waihee, Maui passed away on April 1, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Paia on July 12, 1934 to William Alapai Kaholokula and Myrna "Tweet" English. Jared, more commonly known by his nicknames "Blackie" and "Skippy" was a lifelong resident of Maui. Blackie served in the United States Army and was briefly stationed in Germany. He was a stone mason for many years. His work can still be seen at Kanaha Wildlife Sanctuary. Blackie was also a well-known golfer whose skill was legendary. He played multiple times in the Maui Open and took first place five times. He was offered the opportunity to compete in the Hawaiian Open Pro AM better known as the Sony Open. He was also very proud to be a founding member of the Hawaiian Men's Golf Club. He will be missed, but the love and memories he left behind will live on. Alapa'i all day, every day! Blackie is survived by his wife, Ruth Melani (Basbas), his brother, Alvin "Mousie" (Lucy) Kaholokula, his sister, Jaqueline "Simone" (Bob) Cottrell, his son, Henry Kaholokula, his daughter, Loke Kaholokula (Matt Wong), his step son, Dale Hano Jr., two step daughters, five grandchildren, and four great grandsons. He is predeceased by his brother, Norman "Tudie Boy" (Goldie) Kaholokula and his son, William Kaholokula. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Nakamura Mortuary. Visitation for immediate family starts at 8:00AM and visitation for the public starts at 8:30AM. Service to begin at 10:00AM with lunch to follow. Burial will be at the Maui Veteran's Cemetery in Makawao at 2:00PM.
