Jasmine Pascual Aningat's Obituary
Jasmine Pascual Aningat, 70, of Hāliʻimaile, Maui, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, at Maui Memorial Medical Center after a courageous two-year battle with lung cancer.
Born on September 14, 1955, in Marcos, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, Jasmine was the daughter of Leonor Ruiz and Francisca Ganal. After the passing of her birth parents at a young age, she was lovingly adopted and raised by Maria Ruiz Ganal and Cornelio Pascual. She attended Maui High School and worked at various jobs, hotels, and as a taxi driver before becoming best known as a hardworking business owner for almost 40 years, proudly selling fresh fruits and vegetables grown on her own farm.
Jasmine found great joy in farming and took immense pride in harvesting the fruits of her labor. She especially loved growing kamatis (tomatoes), tabungaw (bottle gourd), karabasa (squash), and the many vegetables that make up a traditional pinakbet. Tending her garden was more than a livelihood—it was a labor of love, and she delighted in sharing its bounty with family, friends, and customers.
She was also known for her delicious Filipino dishes, especially sinkutsar, dinardaraan, and igado. Jasmine will be remembered for her infectious sense of humor, her genuine and authentic personality, and above all, her generous heart. She never hesitated to help those in need, leaving a lasting impact on countless family members, friends, and members of the community.
She is survived by her beloved husband of more than 48 years, William Aningat; her son, Merril Aningat; her daughter, Hazel (Laurence) Rico;her cherished grandchildren, Halyn and Hunter; and her adopted siblings, Teresa (Jesus) Rapisura and Maximo (Ednalyn) Ganal.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Nakamura Mortuary in Wailuku. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Christ the King Church in Kahului from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass. Burial will follow at 12:00 noon at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haʻikū.
The Aningat and Rico ʻohana extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Pacific Cancer Institute, Pacific Cancer Foundation, Hale Makua Wailuku, Maui Health—especially the Lānaʻi North team—and Drs. Choi, Yadav, Kim, and Lee for the exceptional care they provided throughout Jasmine’s journey. Mahalo also to Jasmine’s family and friends for their unwavering prayers, love, condolences, and support. While cancer claimed her earthly body, it did not defeat her spirit. She has won the ultimate victory and is now at her heavenly home, free from pain and embraced by God’s eternal love.
To know Jasmine was to never forget her. Her laughter, strength, generosity, and unmistakable spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
