Jessie Hatsuko Murakami's Obituary
Mrs. Jessie Hatsuko Murakami, 79, of Kahului, passed away peacefully at Maui Memorial Medical Center on March 24, 2017. Services honoring Mrs. Murakami will be held at Wailuku Hongwanji Mission on Friday, April 21, 2017. Visitation will begin at 4:00pm, with memorial service beginning at 5:00pm.
Jessie was born on May 24, 1937 in Lahaina, to Masao & Fumiyo Shiratori. She was the eldest of 3 children. After graduating from Farrington High School with the class of 1955, Jessie went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Washington State University. In 1960, she married her true love, Mr. Patrick Murakami and together they raised four children. She retired from the County of Maui, Department of Public Works as a clerk. In her retirement, she enjoyed solving crossword and Sudoku puzzles, playing mahjong and crafting. Her crafting included crocheting, macramé, creating jewelry and just about anything else. She not only enjoyed creating, she relished in giving. Each and every project she started had an intended recipient but she never needed an occasion to share her talent. She will be remembered by friends and family as a thoughtful and generous woman, a caring and doting wife, mother and grandmother.
Jessie was predeceased by her parents, Masao & Fumiyo Shiratori. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved husband of 57 years, Mr. Patrick Murakami; sons, Michael & Scott Murakami; daughters, Susan (Jun) Castro & Cindy Richardson; grandson, Cameron Richardson; and brothers, Bernard (Karen) & Melvin (Nora) Shiratori.
