Joan Lynne Clark Hunt's Obituary
Joan Lynne Clark Hunt (Joanie), 68, of Lahaina, passed away on August 4, 2024, after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was a woman of God, wife to Kirk for 48 years, and mother to Chelsea, Tiffany, Krystle, Kyle and Lindsay (and their spouses). She was a proud and loving grandmother to twelve. She is also loved and missed by her brothers Gary, Steve, and Jim, and her sister Theresa, who grew up with her in Costa Mesa, CA.
Joanie was a pillar in her community and church. Many Lahaina people will remember her as the PCNC at King Kamehameha III Elementary School in the 90’s. She served and sang with her church family at Kumulani Chapel (now Harvest Maui) for decades and was the office manager since 2011. Joanie was very close to and grateful for her dear brothers and sisters in Christ, who provided much support in the last year.
Joanie helped anyone in need. Many benefitted from her wise counsel, her prayers, and hospitality. A skilled cook and baker, she gifted many wedding cakes and was famous for hosting dinner gatherings at her home in Wahikuli on Kahoma Street, where they lived since 1980. After the fire, she and Kirk were housed by a generous family in Kihei.
Joanie loves to walk. Most days she trekked vast distances at a fast pace on the beach paths and lower roads of West Maui. Today, Joanie is walking with her Lord in Heaven. A memorial will be held in a public space in Lahaina next year (date and details TBA). Her family will be sure to invite her vast community, for whom she expressed much love and appreciation.
