John Ha'i Pahuwai's Obituary
John Ha’i Pahuwai Jr., 57, of Wailuku passed away on January 28, 2025, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. John was born on November 07, 1967, in Wailuku, Maui. John is predeceased by his parents John Ha’i Pahuwai Sr. and Gladys Luana Kauhaa-Po Pahuwai. He is survived by his Hanai children Chester (Heidi Sinenci) Taiseni, Chase (Mei Kaina-Tianio) Taiseni & Cherish (Bryson) Kealoha, brothers, Jonathan (Kanani Keawekane) Pahuwai, Samuel (Nora) Pahuwai, sisters, Minnie Pahuwai, Leinaala (Keith) Kealoha, Leimomi Pahuwai, Hanai sister Chelsea (Shadrick) Puaoi.
John was a great uncle and leaves behind nephew Kaleohano nieces Kailee (Darrin) Pahuwai-Makekau, Kapilina, Kimbree, Hōpoe, Pohainanea, Makaheihi, Kaʻiliwai along with grand nieces Kylani, Kylea, Kylena, Kiele, grand nephews Paoa, Mala’e, Nakoa, Kenneth, A’ali’i along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. John aka “Big Boy” was an avid fisherman and a lover of the sea. He was a gifted artist and loved to sketch. John was a musician loved playing his guitar and entertaining with his brothers. He had an infectious smile and couldʻve made a great “Puka Shell Tour Guide” with his many stories.
The ʻOhana would like to take this time to thank Liberty Dialysis Nurses & Staff, Maui Memorial Medical Centers ICU nurses and doctors that cared for John. Jehovah Witnesses who did home visits and lessons with him. The family will be holding a celebration of life over ashes on Sunday March 9th at the Wailuku Community Center, from 10AM with a short service at 11AM luncheon to follow.
