Jon "Alan" Sakamoto's Obituary
Jon “Alan” Sakamoto, beloved father, brother, grandfather, and significant other passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024.
Jon was born in Makawao, Maui on February 10, 1937. He attended Mid Pacific School on Oahu and Grinell College in Iowa.
He worked at Dole Cannery as a supervisor, later joined the state government as a program analyst, and spent the remaining years of his career in the Department of Transportation, managing all of Maui county's airports.
He retired in 2003, enjoying gardening, movies, and spending time with family and friends.
Jon is survived by his girlfriend of 20 years Jeannie Akiyama, brother Paul Sakamoto, sons Sean Sakamoto (Kim) and Michael Berman, and three grandchildren Averi and Rylen Sakamoto and Aubree Merhib.
Jon’s devotion and love for his family, friends, and community will be remembered by all who knew him.
Per Jon’s wishes, a private service was held on March 20, 2024.
