Jose Calma Villanueva's Obituary
Jose Calma Villanueva, 92, passed peacefully at Hospice Maui surrounded by his family on September 26, 2024. He is predeceased by Ines Villanueva on April 1, 2011.
Jose was born on July 2, 1932 in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines to Mateo and Irene Villanueva. Jose moved to Waikapu, Maui on April 23, 1978. He started off as a farm hand at the Dole Plantation. Shortly after moving to Hawai’i he realized that he did not want to be working in the fields, so he changed his profession to Kitchen Steward at the Royal Lahaina Resort. On his days off, he would do landscaping with his wife, Ines, and sometimes their grandchildren in tow around their neighborhood.
Grandpa Jose is survived by his half-brother; Jonah Villanueva; sons; Herman Villanueva and Edgar Villacalma; daughters; Glenda Mupas and Lina Villanueva; eight grandchildren; Ferdielynn (James), Rubielyn (Chris), Wendielyn, Leila Mae, Wesley, Emberlyn, Kimberly, Ferdinand and eleven great grandchildren; Nicholas, Matthew, Evelina, Atticus, Anaïs, Kala’i, Ethan, Adonis, Ezra, Ariston and Esmé.
Jose’s funeral will be held at the Nakamura Mortuary on Friday, October 25, 2024. Viewing will be at 8am to 10am. Service will start at 10am, following the service, bentos will be provided for guests. Please join us for a meal in remembrance and fellowship. His burial will then be at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haiku at 12pm.
