Joseph Balangitao Sr.'s Obituary
On May 10, 2019, Joseph Balangitao Sr., went to be with our Heavenly Father. Joe was born on January 15, 1933 to Bernaldo and Ponciana Balagitao. Growing up in Puunene, he had nine brothers and sisters where family, sports and raising fighting cocks was his passion. From an early age he competed in sports such as swimming, track and field, and the Men's Basketball League on the plantation.
While attending Baldwin High School, Joe played football, basketball, and track and field. His love for all sports and ability to excel earned him a scholarship to play football for the University of Hawaii. He worked as a sales rep for both Aloha and Hawaiian Airlines where he retired. In retirement, he would often work as a substitute teacher.
In the 1900's Joe coached football besides his son Joe Jr. with his grandsons being the water boys. The experience brought joy to the entire family when watching them coach together. Joe was a caring husband, father, grandpa, papa and coach who touched many lives.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Margaret, their five children, Joseph Jr. (Janet), Iris, Avis (Dean Seki), Jody (David Takamiya), Brandon (Sharlyn Galo) ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren and siblings Shirley (Baron Souza Sr.), Myrna (Joseph Ferndandez Sr.) and Alan.
Although he will be greatly missed, we know that we see him again as promise in the scripture, "For God so loved the world that he gave is one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
