Kameo Tanaka's Obituary
Kameo “Kam” Tanaka, 83, of Kahului passed away on April 1, 2021 at Maui Memorial Hospital.
Services honoring Kam will be held at Nakamura Mortuary on Monday, April 26, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM for family and friends. Burial will be held the next day on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 12:30 PM at Maui Memorial Park. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, wearing of masks and social distancing will be required.
Kam was born and raised in Lahaina, Maui on May 29, 1937 and graduated from Lahainaluna High School. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Hawaii State House of Representatives 12th District. He retired as a state corrections officer at Maui Community Correctional Center. He later served as a security guard at Kaiser Permanente in Wailuku.
Kam was predeceased by his parents, Yoshiro and Hanayo Tanaka; brothers, Yoshiharu, Yoshinobu, Yoshikazu, and Katsuichi Henry Yoshino; sisters, Yoshie Kamimoto and Sumiko Yoshino; and son, Robert Yoshino Tanaka.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Amelia “Mellie” Tanaka; sons, Kevin (Saane) Tanaka and James (Edel Bolosan) Tanaka; grandchildren, Liana, Tiare, Sidney, Robert, Kevin Jr., Jamee, and Jaxon; great granddaughter, Hali’a; siblings, Joe (Barbara) Tanaka, Tsuruyo Hoshide, Kikue (Nobuo) Kanemoto, and Kathy (Mark) Miyakawa.
Kam will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
