Karl Heinz Wirtl's Obituary
Karl Heinz Wirtl passed away peacefully at home in Wailuku on April 13, 2022.
Karl was born on June 13, 1947 in Göpfritz an der Wild, Austria, the youngest of four sons, to Johann Wirtl and Kreszentia (Daferner) Wirtl.
Celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, May 14th, 2022 at Ka’ahumanu Church in Wailuku. Visitation 9-10am Service at 10am.
Predeceased by his wife Bernice Kuemanu (Purdy) Higa-Wirtl and survived by brother Gerd Wirtl; daughters Martina Wirtl, Kathryn Moniz, Maureen Higa, Jo-Anne Talo; sons Wayne Higa, Jason Higa; fur-babies Pu’u, Maika, Buddy.
At a young age, Karl attended culinary school starting his lifelong career in the food industry. Being a chef led him around the world until finally settling on Maui where he met his wife. He was an avid runner who completed over 100 marathons and ultra-marathons, bringing determination and optimism to each race and everyday challenges.
