Kazumi "Kazu" Kawakami 87
Kazumi Kawakami, 87, of Wailuku passed away peacefully at Hale Makua Kahului under the care of Hale Makua North, Hospice Maui and surrounded by his loving family on February 10, 2019.
Services honoring Mr. Kawakami will be held at St. Anthony Church on Saturday, March 2, 2019. Visitation will begin at 9:00am with the eulogy at 10:15am. Mass will begin at 11:00am. He will be laid to eternal rest at Maui Memorial Park at 2:00pm.
Kazumi was born in Lahaina on May 3, 1931. He proudly served his Country as a U.S. Marine. In 1955 he met the love of his life at Maui Land Pine, Alice Torres, and was married on August 11, 1956. He work for the County of Maui as a refuse worker until he retired. Kazumi was a very quiet person and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mr. Kawakami leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 62 years, Alice Kawakami; children, Roxane (Dale) Fujiyama and, Bryan (June) Kawakami; grandchildren, Barry Kawakami; Tara (Melbert) Ulep; Jendyl Kawakami; and Jennalyn (Chad) Pacheco, great-grandchildren, Melina and Triton Ulep and Jaycee Pacheco. He also leaves behind his sister, Fusayo Apo and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hale Makua Kahului and the staff of North Neighborhood and Hospice Maui.
