Kimie Wataru Kawahara's Obituary
KIMIE WATARU KAWAHARA, 100 passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Hale Makua in Kahului. She was born on May 27, 1924, Lanai City, Lanai, to her parents, Kikujiru and Shimi Wataru. She had four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by one sister, Sumie Sakuma of Garden Grove, California. Kimie attended Wailuku Elementary, Iao Intermediate School and in 1942 she graduated from Baldwin High School. Kimie enjoyed cooking and her food was always shared with family and friends. Her love for cooking came from taking care of friends and family and making them happy. Kimie is predeceased by her husband, Yoshio Kawahara and daughter, Kathryn Keiko Kochi, and her sisters, Patsy Mikie Okamoto of Iao Valley, Wailuku, Yukie Wataru Nonaka of Lihue Kauai, Tsurue Wataru Kawahara of Pukalani, and Brothers Richard Wataru of Oahu and Toshio Wataru Nakanishi of Wailuku. She is survived by her son, Dale Kawahara of Makawao and daughter, Naomi (Richard) Nemoto of Kahului, Her Three Grandsons, Wade Kochi of Oahu, Derek ( Densise) Kochi of Oahu and Cory Kochi of Pukalani, Maui. Services for Kimie will be held at Makawao Hongwanji Mission on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Visitation will be from 10 am - 11am, with the service to begin at 11 am - 12 noon, with lunch to follow
