I met Laura in 1971 after serving in the Navy in Vietnam and returning to Utah State. I moved into a house in Logan with good friends Russ Martineau and Greg Braman and Laura lived in an apartment upstairs. Being a Kailua, Oahu boy, I quickly assumed she was an island girl and wasn't a bit surprised when I discovered she was from Lahaina. My dad was an engineer with AMFAC, so we knew Maui. Well, it didn't take long before Greg moved upstairs, and Russ and I had the lower house to ourselves. Our friendship lasted for years, and my wife and I visited Greg and Laura several times in Lahaina, always having fun. My last visit to Lahaina was in 1984 and I went to see Laura. Once when I was visiting my aunt in Fullerton, maybe 30 years ago, I drove up to the Braman residence in Pomona or Pasadena...can't remember and went out to lunch with Greg. He was good. Many years passed and my wife and I built our retirement home in Kalapana on the Big Island. Her daughter Eva and family lived in Hilo, so I got to visit Laura there. Laura and I shared such fond memories many in a Logan and Hawaii that no longer exists today. Fifty-five years' worth. I only met up with her that one time on the BI, which is sad. Aloha Laura, God bless and mahalo for your friendship.
